How Do I File a Police Report?

If you are in the city limits of any municipality when a crime occurs, you must file a report with the municipal police.  If you are in an unincorporated area of St. Francois County, you must file a report with the sheriff’s office.

When filing a police report, here are a few things that police and prosecutors will need to know for a successful investigation and case:

  • What happened?

  • When did it happen?

  • Where did it happen?

  • Do you know who may have committed the offense?

  • Unique identifiers of property (such as serial numbers)

  • Bring any evidence you have, such as bank statements, video, etc.
