It is important that EVERY person planning to erect a structure in our county get a building permit. This costs $20 and is bought at the County Clerk’s office.
I write a floodplain report on every Building permit sold. It is rare that I find possible flooding. If I do, I contact that landowner to inform them of the possible issues and solutions before they build.
We now have a case in which a landowner did not get a permit and thus no floodplain report was written. He built within a floodzone and now has SERIOUS problems. Just buying the permit would have found this problem early and solved the issue !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paying that small fee would have saved him thousands of dollars.
