Marriage License


To apply for a marriage license, both parties must personally appear. A valid ID is needed from both parties. A blood test is not needed and a waiting period is not required. Original signatures are required from both parties. If one party is not a U.S. citizen, a valid government issued ID is needed. The license can be picked by either party. The license must be used within 30 days of being issued. The license must be returned to our office within 15 days of being used. If for any reason the license is not used, please return the license to the office of the Recorder of Deeds.


Note: When applying all information regarding both parties is needed at the time of application.


*If either party has been divorced or widowed, the date the marriage ended is needed*


The legal age for getting married without consent is 18 years old. Anyone younger than 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who will also have to sign the application. If the parents are divorced, a divorce decree may be required to determine guardianship.


Marriage license applications are also taken to the Farmington Correctional Center and Eastern Diagnostic Center in Bonne Terre. Applications are taken to these facilities on the last Tuesday of February and August. The applications must be approved by the Correctional Center. The same requirements also apply to these applications.


Note: Inmate Birth Certificate is needed when applying for marriage license, all information on the inmate is needed at the time of application.



License $51.00 CASH OR DEBIT/CREDIT With a minimum $2.00 convenience fee. Fee to be paid at the time of application.


Underage Applicant $1.00 additional fee for each


Certified Copy of License $9.00 Used for any legal purpose including renewing drivers license.
